Use of Self in Antiracism

VIRTUAL | JUNE 18, 2022 | 2:00 PM - 5 PM (EST)

“What can I say to my uncle to get him to see that he’s racist?”

Are you having trouble talking about race, racism or power in a way that feels authentic?
Do you find it difficult to find the right way for you to plug into antiracist work?
Have you said some version of the quote above?

In the quest for antiracism, there are no scripts. Nor are we limited to one single way to contribute to liberation movements. In this workshop we will explore ‘use of self’- “combining of knowledge, values, and skills… with aspects of one’s personal self, including personality traits, belief systems, life experiences, and cultural heritage.,”- as it applies to antiracism. In addition, we’ll touch on power dynamics- how does your relationship & positionality influence the way you show up in this conversation?

This 3-hour, participatory workshop is for those who are already well on their antiracism journey. You will reframe and move forward together with people who are also moving through this work.

$90 / 12 participant minimum

LS & Permaculture Principle Playscape

Virtual | JUNE 17, 2022 | 11:00 Am- 1:00 PM (EST)

LS is based on complexity theory(!)—observing how humans naturally learn and communicate and intentionally applying those core components to conversation. Permaculture does the same with how nature and plants interact, similarly tweaking components to achieve a desired result. Let’s explore the relationship between Permaculture Design Principles, Liberating Structures, and practices that enhance an organic orientation to work, relationships, and community-building. In this workshop, we hope to emphasize the permeability of LS by showing how it can be brought together generatively with adjacent practices & approaches.

This participatory, free 2-hour workshop is over the lunch hour for the east coast, so if you are ok with eating on camera, feel free to bring a meal or a snack to enjoy while you are with us!

Self-Disclosure: How Much YOU Do You Bring to Your Facilitation?

VIRTUAL | June 2, 2022 | 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM CST

We all have masks we wear in professional environments. In this session, we'll explore the role self-disclosure—of personality, of feelings, of experiences and beliefs—plays in facilitated spaces. This kind of disclosure can create deeper connections in a group and is thus often considered desirable, and part of what we're contemplating is how to assess risk such that you can choose when, why and how to self-disclose in different contexts.

This event is presented as part of the Central Texas Liberating Structures User Group, a collective of LS practitioners from around the globe who come together for hands-on practice with liberating structures. It's virtual, and open to all locations and levels of expertise.

Free (upon registration).
